Towards the
beginning of the year I was just trying to get through my sophomore year of
college and started experiencing migraines.
In May, after finishing my sophomore year I started getting sick who
would of thought it would end up being a 3 month process??? Certainly not me! I visited doctors four times in that three
month period trying to get rid of what then they considered to be
pneumonia. While all of this was going
on my aunt uncle and their two kids moved across the country to Las Vegas, NV
to start a Teen Challenge from the ground up.
This was difficult to see them move so far away and then end up so
sick. Fourth of July was no ordinary
holiday this year. We had just returned
home from our family vacation from Naples and Sanibel Island, Florida. When all of a sudden my abdomen started
filling up with fluid...that's when we all knew that there was a problem....it
got so bad to where I couldn't sit up anymore! So the Saturday after the 4th at
10:30 at night we made a trip to Riley Hospital's ER. That's where they stuck me with IV's, took
x-rays and figured out that I was in congestive heart failure. I've always known that my lifespan is in
short unknown considering that I am not supposed to be alive in the first place
but I've never been around or heard doctors and nurses asking me (who's laying
on a bed with an oxygen mask on) and my parents what course of action to take
if I go into cardiac arrest. It's also
been eye opening because during this time at least three people with my
condition (varying types) had passed away and were not that much older than me.
All I can say is
that it was definitely interesting year to say the least. I hope that 2014 is a much smoother ride than
2013. My goals for 2014 are to write on
this at least once a month and also give you my point of view on things. One of the biggest misconceptions given about
"handicap" people is that with that comes a "mental"
disability while yes that may be true in some cases it is not true in all
cases! Especially my own! I hope that by reading this you gain
knowledge and insight into another person’s life. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
